This class is designed for artists who already have basic drawing experience and want to take their portrait skills to the next level. We will focus on improving accuracy, understanding facial structure, and gaining confidence in drawing realistic facial features.
Students will learn practical techniques for constructing and refining the eyes, nose, and mouth while strengthening observation and proportion skills.
What We will Focus On
1. Facial Structure & Proportions
Understanding the underlying shapes of the head
Using guidelines to properly place facial features
Learning how angles and perspective affect the face
2. Drawing the Eyes
Breaking the eye down into simple shapes before adding detail
Understanding eyelids, tear ducts, and eye sockets
Creating depth through shading
Avoiding common mistakes like flat or symmetrical eyes
3. Drawing the Nose
Seeing the nose as planes and forms rather than outlines
Constructing the bridge, nostrils, and tip using light and shadow
Learning how subtle shading creates realistic structure
4. Drawing the Mouth
Understanding lip structure and volume
Capturing expression and natural asymmetry
Using value and shading to avoid outlined lips
